ANTG 221. Biology and Culture. 3 crs. A seminar concerned with various approaches to the relationships between human biology and sociocultural behavior, evaluating historical and current anthropological theories. Analyzes human variation and the concept of race.

ANTG 222. Human Osteology. 3 crs. Detailed study of the techniques used in the analysis of skeletal material, focusing on identification, age, sex, growth and repair, pathology, and measurement. Optional laboratory research. 1 cr.

ANTG 224. Readings in Physical Anthropology. 3 crs. Intensive individual study of writings in physical anthropology. Prereq.: Consent of instructor.

ANTG 240. Anthropological Theory. 3 crs. Survey of anthropological theory and the application.

ANTG 243. Magic, Witchcraft and Healing. 3 crs. Analyzes the relationships among magic, witchcraft, religion and healing and their significance for an understanding of our own cultures as well as Third World societies.

ANTG 248. Medical Anthropology: The Ecology of Health. 3 crs. Deals with patterns of health and disease influenced by biological evolution, environmental and cultural variation, and contemporary culture change. Concerns the broad social causes of health differences in human populations and the potential for preventive medicine.

ANTG 254. Sex Roles and Relationships. 3 crs. Analysis of sex-roles differences and the implications of differential socialization of the sexes.

ANTG 256. Education and Culture. 3 crs. Application of anthropology to the analysis of educational processes in different cultures.

ANTG 260. Aging in Cross-Cultural Perspective. 3 crs. An examination of the ways different cultures regard the process of aging.

ANTG 280. Introduction to Linguistics. 3 crs. Explores the nature of language and the role of the linguist in the study of language.

ANTG 284. Language and Culture. 3 crs. Introduces the student to the field of linguistics as a viable approach to the study of language structure. It enables the student to view language as an aspect of culture and as a reflection of the identify of the user. Provides the student with opportunities to develop analytical skills by investigating a variety of cultures and the role of language in those cultures.

ANTG 290. Field Methods: Ethnography. 3 crs. Exploration of the methodology of community studies, contemporary, historic and prehistoric, with emphasis on practical experience.
