HIST 400, 401. Oral History. 3 crs. Examination of some of the major historiographical and methodological problems one encounters in attempting to reconstruct the history of preliterate and illiterate societies.

HIST 402. Museums and Archives. 3 crs. Study of principles, procedures, and practices of archival administration and uses.

HIST 403. Archives and Film. 3 crs. An examination of film as a public history agent with special emphasis on archival documentaries.

HIST 404. Problems in Public History. 3 crs. Concentration on specific issues central to the field of applied history and cultural resources management.

HIST 405. Seminar in Public History. 3 crs. Course designed to analyze contemporary public history topics and develop scholarly skills through preparation of a seminar paper.

HIST 406. Readings in Public History. 3 crs. Readings on topics, concepts, and perceptions guiding major trends in public history; focus on historic preservation, public policy, and private entrepreneurial issues.

HIST 407. Comparative History (Seminar). 3 crs. Comparative method applied to selected problems; may include analysis of approaches to world history.

HIST 408. Historical Editing. 3 crs. The objective of this course is to expose students to the craft of historical editing, that is, the transcription and annotation of primary historical documents for purposes of publication.
