Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program

Howard University is invited to participate in the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program competition for 2009. The program is designed to identify students in the second year of a baccalaureate program with an exceptionally strong record of academic achievement, demonstrated leadership ability and future leadership potential, outstanding communication skills, and an interest in global affairs. One hundred nominees will receive a cash award and the opportunity to take part in a recognition ceremony. Fifty will be selected to participate in a Global Leadership Institute in New York City in July 2009 that will examine economic and political issues of international import. Like other participating universities, Howard University may nominate from five to ten candidates. Since the inception of the program in 2001, Howard University has placed three students in the final 100, two of whom also participated in the Global Leadership Institute.

Faculty members are invited to nominate promising students for this year's competition. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the link below. Please rate each nominee's academic achievement, career interests, community service, leadership ability, and communication skills and furnish the other information requested. It is especially important for you to report the current e-mail address of each nominee inasmuch as we will follow up your recommendation with a request for a one-page résumé.

A faculty committee will examine the nominations and recommend the strongest candidates for submission to the Institute of International Education (IIE), which administers the program. Our institutional nominees will then be invited to submit applications and supporting documentation to the IIE for further evaluation. Additional information about the program, including profiles of recent awardees, may be found at http://www.iie.org/programs/global_leaders/default.htm.

Please return completed forms to the Office of the Provost by close of business on Friday, December 5, 2008. Please contact Dr. Reidy (jreidy@howard.edu) if you have any questions.

Thank you for your assistance in this important opportunity for our students.
