Anthropology

A major in Anthropology requires a total of 33 credit hours, including 6 credit hours in electives, and 27 hours from the following core curriculum courses: ANTH 110, ANTH 120, ANTH 130, ANTH 140 or ANTH 141, ANTH 214, ANTH 219, ANTH 250, SOCI 110 or ANTH 130, ANTH 220, ANTH 219 or ANTH 221 or ANTH 222 or ANTH 230.

A minor in Anthropology requires 12 hours of required courses: ANTH 110, ANTH 120, ANTH 130, ANTH 140, or ANTH 141 and 6 hours of electives. Sociology majors who are pursuing a minor in Anthropology must take at least 12 hours in addition to ANTH 001 and ANTH 002.

Administration of Justice 

A major in Administration of Justice requires a total of 30 credit hours. This includes the following 21 required credit hours: SOCI 001, SOCI 070, SOCI 079, SOCI 110, SOCI 111, SOCI 170, and SOCI 074; it also includes 9 elective credit hours in Administration of the Justice.

A minor in Administration of Justice requires a total of 15 credit hours. This includes the following 9 required credit hours: SOCI 001, SOCI 170, SOCI 070 and at least six (6) additional elective hours in Administration of Justice.

Center for Preprofessional Education

The Center for Preprofessional Education organizes and directs programs that strengthen the motivation and preparation of undergraduate and graduate students for success in the curricula for the health professions. The Center provides individualized counseling for the professions of allied health, allopathic medicine, dentistry, osteopathic medicine, optometric medicine, pharmacy, podiatric medicine, and veterinary medicine.

Accelerated Programs for Medicine, Dentistry and Podiatry

B.S./M.D.

The B.S./M.D. program allows the student to complete the requirements for both the B.S. and M.D. degrees in six years instead of the customary eight years. A limited number of students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences will be admitted each year to the Howard University College of Medicine as part of the entering class of traditionally selected students.

B.S./D.D.S.

A limited number of students who have completed specific requirements in the College of Arts and Sciences will be admitted to the College of Dentistry at the end of the sophomore year. The B.S. degree will be awarded after the first two years of the D.D.S. program have been successfully completed; the D.D.S. degree will be awarded after the D.D.S. curriculum has been successfully completed.

B.S./D.P.M.

This program will permit specially identified students who have completed 90 semester hours of prepodiatric training in the College of Arts and Sciences, Howard University, to be considered for podiatric training at Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine.
