Technological Resources and Facilities

Interactive Instructional Laboratory

The Interactive Instructional Laboratory came to fruition in 1996 as a result of a donation from IBM to the University for infrastructure improvements, as well as the resourcefulness of undergraduate information systems students, who configured, tested and brought the system on-line. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with 25 IBM Multimedia Workstations, two Applications Servers, and an Instructor’s Multimedia Workstation connected directly to overhead video monitors. Software offerings that the Interactive Instructional Laboratory provides include Windows 95, Lotus Suite 96, Microsoft Office 97 Professional (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Access). INTERNET applications such as Telnet, FTP, E-mail (Pine, Eudora Lite), Netscape Communicator and Microsoft Internet Explorer are also provided. This facility also provides advanced software packages for desktop publishing, software development and analysis such as Microsoft Publisher, Visual Basic and C++, Minitab, Accounting Packages, and Financial Packages such as Compustat.

Information Systems Development Laboratory

The purpose of this laboratory is to provide students with an environment that will further enhance their skills in developing information systems. Originally conceived as the PC Skills Laboratory, students hone their programming skills and other capabilities in the areas of system analysis, database design, data communications, personal computer concepts, operating systems, and computer facilities management. To insure that students are familiar with the state-of-the-art concepts in information systems, this laboratory features Unix-based and Intel Pentium-based workstations. The Hewlett Packard Apollo Unix-based Workstations support X-Windows, HP Softbench Developer’s Platform, C and C++. The Micron Intel Pentium-based Windows NT 4.0 Workstations support applications such as MS Powerpoint, MS Access, MS Visual Basic and Visual C++, Microfocus Cobol for Windows, Oracle SQL Database, web authoring tools, and network management tools.

Computer Productivity Laboratory

This facility maintains 80 Intel Pentium-based MMX Windows NT 4.0 Workstations for students to increase their productivity in the areas of word processing, electronic spreadsheets, databases, and Internet research techniques. Also, depending on their disciplines, students may explore the tools of desktop publishing, computer-based nutritional development, financial analysis, language skills development, statistical analysis, and marketing.
